The Top 7 Personal Products that Give Back
The Top 7 Personal Products that Give Back
It’s great to buy products you love.
It’s even better to find products and companies that you can support that also support others by giving back to the community or providing financial support and sustainability for grassroots organizations or women who are working to support their families.
These are my favorite places to shop from, and I’m choosing to support them more and more.
Truth be told, I don’t shop from them as much as I could or would like to. But I don’t sit in guilt about it because I know that what little I do choose to purchase from them is doing good, and as long as I strive to do more good in the world, then I’m making progress.
I don’t have to buy all organic, all free trade, all small business, all female-run business products to feel good about what I’m buying (nor do I have that in my budget currently).
It’s about taking small steps. So if you can make one small change today to buy just one thing from a company that is socially conscious, then go you!
Have you ever thought about the ingredients in your personal care products? I know it’s not something most of us (myself included) like to talk about, but hang in here with me for a minute.
Cora’s products are 100% organic cotton, with no added ingredients you have to feel squeamish about, which is great when you’re using them in such an intimate way!
And beyond that, your purchase means someone in a developing country will get the products they need for their own personal care, too!
Their website says, “with every Cora purchase, we provide pads and health education to a girl in need. We use the power of business to fight for gender equality and provide products, education, and jobs to girls and women in need in developing nations and right here at home.” How awesome is that?
Start having your own personal care products delivered to your door on a regular basis (bonus: no more frantic trips to the store!), and know that you’re helping other girls get what they need, too!
I LOVE all the products I’ve gotten from Amma’s Umma in the past. I have three dresses from them, a sweatshirt from them, and a pair of earrings from them currently. And I’d be lying if I said I don’t have a wishlist going with more things I’d like to buy.
I even had my bridesmaids order dresses from Amma’s Umma for my wedding because they’re buttery soft, super adorable, flattering on everyone, and they have pockets! Plus, the girls will truly be able to wear them again, and they’re so much more affordable than traditional bridesmaid dresses!
Not to mention the heart behind the company that I am just so in love with: they give 50% of their profits to help support adoption efforts. So not only do they put out fantastic products that support various artisans and manufacturers, but they help fund adoptions for people who can’t afford them, caring for kids who desperately need parents and adults who want to be parents to those kids. The FAQ page on their website says they provide “a curation of 35+ made in the USA, handmade, cause driven, fair trade brands or ethically sourced international brands,” which I just love!
EYE BUY DIRECT
I didn’t know Eye Buy Direct had a philanthropic arm until recently, when I ordered my second pair of glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses from them. I ordered my first pair a few years ago, and I’ve loved them for their great quality and fabulously affordable prices.
And when I checked out recently, I saw that there’s an option to provide glasses for someone else in need through each purchase, which is awesome! By buying your own quality, affordable glasses, you can help someone else get the glasses they need to see clearly!
They have so many great styles, an awesome try-on feature, and options to upgrade your lenses and add a case, all for FAR less than you’d spend at the eye doctor. Start shopping now!
Many people know about Toms and their buy a pair, give a pair model.
They’re also supporting initiatives to end gun violence. Their website says, “TOMS is investing $5 million in a diverse coalition of non-profit organizations, whose deep expertise and on-the-ground impact are imperative in the movement to end gun violence.”
Shop with style on their website, and know that you’re investing in doing good.
If I’m ever looking for some relaxing products to create a soothing atmosphere or at-home spa-like experience, Thistle Farms is my first stop! They have such great products, and I know buying from them supports women working to get back on their feet. They provide housing, food, healthcare, therapy, education, and tons of other valuable resources— their work is so valuable!
I love Noonday’s jewelry! It’s so pretty and unique, and I can feel good about buying it or putting it on my wishlist around my birthday or Christmas.
Their website makes me believe in them even more, saying, “We design jewelry and accessories in collaboration with talented Artisans, using unique materials and traditional skills to create beautiful, unique jewelry. We develop artisan businesses through fair trade, empowering them to grow sustainably. By connecting artisan businesses to a growing market for their goods, we enable them to create more jobs for people in their communities who need them.”
Whether you’re looking for good-quality shoes, clothes, or handbags, Sseko makes great products, and they support female artisans doing great work!
Check out their newest line of shoes (along with all their other amazing products you’ll want to buy and/or add to a wishlist ASAP) on their website.
