Highlight Reel (September 2018 Favorites)

I thought it would be fun if I took a moment each month to let you know what things are currently striking my fancy, so here goes the September installment!

This month, I read Katherine Reay’s Dear Mr. Knightley, Lizzy and Jane, and The Bronte Plot, completely falling in love with the books, the author’s outlook, the literary references up the wazoo, and the faith elements woven throughout! If you haven’t read these gems yet but like Austen and Bronte books and good, clean reading, check them out!

Don’t kill me for waiting so long, but I finally read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and it was pretty good! It’s hard to be objective when the whole series has so much love and hype surrounding it, but I did really enjoy it, and it was surprisingly not juvenile (though much of its reader base is younger).

I’m still reading Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Books, too-- I’ve been busy with other things and other books and sadly neglected this one for much of September. And I have the pretty Penguin classics cloth-bound version that keeps calling to me, so I’m going to finish it ASAP!

"Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. The world belongs to the energetic." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I haven’t watched too many things this month with how busy I’ve been working on new things (like Equipped & Empowered: Christian Business Mastermind!), but I did get caught up on the latest season of Call the Midwife, which I love! The history, the time period, the camaraderie between the characters— all of it!

I'm loving Lauren Daigle’s single “You Say,” and the amazing message of finding our identity in who Christ says we are— beautiful, beloved, worthy daughters of the King of Kings!

I made some tasty paleo apple crisp for a friend’s baby shower (which my paleo-eating and non-paleo-eating friends alike appreciated), and I doubled the recipe, so I had a full pan at home to myself afterward! Winning! (I didn’t have pecans, so I used almonds for mine.)

Wow! Time is just flying by these days! September went by in a blur, but it was a good blur!

I went to the Needtobreathe and Johnnyswim concert with some of my dearest girlfriends, and we had an absolute blast!

I also went to an apple orchard with my sister, my cousin, and my cousin’s adorable kids, and while it was 90 degrees and not fall-like at all, it was such a sweet time with them!

I did 30 days of live videos on the topic of productivity, and it was so much fun and so informative! You can catch the videos here.

And as you’re reading this, I’m headed to the wedding of one of my college roommates, a pit stop in my college town, and the chance to see a precious new baby in the family!

Im launching Equipped & Empowered: Christian Business Mastermind, a community for Christian business owners and entrepreneurs looking to be equipped with the tools and tutorials they need to reach their audience, to be empowered with the accountability and feedback they require to grow, and to be encouraged in a safe, prayerful community where they can ask their questions and get valuable answers as they seek growth and impact for their businesses!

I’m also going camping on the North Shore (where it will be cold— pray for me!)!

What were some of your favorite things this month? I'd love to hear from you in the comments!

Later, lovely!Jessie (1).png
